Rangers Northern Men’s Coach 2017
Northern Rangers FC are delighted to have Michael Monticchio back in blue, white and red and he has another role to play in the club's season for 2017. Michael has been named as Rangers Northern Championship (NC) Coach for 2017 pushing to enhance the talent in the squad to have those willing, ready to take on the challenge of state league football.
Michael will anchor himself primarily with the Championship squad as a playing-coach but will also look to get some game time in the NPL to prove a point with an injury plagued season in 2016. Changes to competition rules in 2017 will allow players to play both Northern Championship and National Premier League in the same round, allowing coaches to balance squads and player workloads.
Assisting Michael will be Jason Smith who re-joins the club after several season away, involved in a brief stint with their women's team in 2010. Jason will help to balance responsibilities whilst Michael is playing and also learning and developing his coaching aptitude at the same time.
"I am delighted to be the NC Coach for the Northern Rangers. My main goal is to have a competitive team in the championship while enhancing technical and tactical development of our players to grow them into impactful players at the NPL level. I am eager for the year to begin, especially with the help of my new assistant coach, Jason Smith. Jason will bring a crucial knowledge and balance to the NC side. Especially during trainings and games where I will be playing, Jason will help me tremendously by being the eyes from the sidelines. Working with him will be a pleasure!" Says Michael Monticchio.
The Championship Competition is continuing to strengthen after the formation of the state league in 2013 talent and focus was pulled away from the Northern Competition. Time and reduction in changes to rules/structure particularly over the last few seasons has allowed the completion to again develop.
"Michael is a great addition to our coaching ranks for 2017, I was very impressed with what I saw from him last year with his work with our under 16's and also around the playing group in general. I am excited with how the 2017 season is shaping up and I am looking forward to working with Michael and the NC group to improve upon our results from the 2016 season" Says Marshall Pooley, the club's Football Manager and season 2016 NC coach himself.
Marshall Pooley a former Goal Keeper in the state league until retirement in 2014 will take on a Goal Keeping Coach position. Freed from team coaching, will allow Marshall to develop Keepers, a key position that clubs at the state league level are finding hard to produce in local talent.
The club can confirm that Pre-season training will start Tuesday's & Thursdays from the 1st of December. Trainings will be from 6pm at the Norwood Primary School oval off Norwood Avenue. All players pushing to play in the NPL, NC including this year's U18's are asked to attend if they wish to be included in preparation for season 2017.
The club's now firmly working the next step in their plan; to have a quality pre-season and coaches in place to attract the best talent.
